GU confers Ph. D degree to Tasile

Tasile N Zeliang from Nagaland being conferred degree of Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa by the Gauhati University.

Dimapur, April 30 (EMN): Gauhati University (GU) has conferred Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa degree to Tasile N Zeliang from Nagaland in recognition of her work in the field of education, sports and social service in the State. The University regarded it as a unique achievement and significant contribution to the society at large.

Her ‘Scroll of Honour’ states that Tasile N Zeliang, who hails from Peren district in Nagaland, is the daughter of a freedom fighter. She is a versatile personality. She has dedicated her life to teaching and is an author in her native tongue. She has received numerous awards, recent one being Ojoswani Yuwak Alankar (2011), New Art Payer Award (2015) and The Best Citizens of India Award (2017).

Governor of Assam and Chancellor of Gauhati University, Banwarilal Purohit conferred the Degree to Tasile N Zeliang during the 26th Convocation of the University in the BKB Auditorium in the university campus, Guwahati, on April 28.

Expressing his happiness that Tasile N Zeliang from Nagaland and Nabam Tata from Arunachal Pradesh have been conferred with degrees of Doctor of Philosophy Honoris Causa, Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, Acharya, who reached Itanagar in the morning from Kohima, opined that people from all walks of life must be recognised by the Universities for their selfless and unique services to the society and the nation.

“Such conferment will encourage the dedicated and extraordinary individuals and also motivate many others to work towards sustaining cultural heritage, preservation of fragile environment and overall prosperity and empowerment of every section of the society and gender,” the Governor said.

PB Acharya, who is the former Governor of Assam and also former Chancellor of Gauhati University, being aware of the valuable works of Tasile N Zeliang in the field education, sports and social service in the State, had recommended her name for the recognition.
