DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan, has called upon the Hindu community to put in a united effort to eradicate crimes against women, children and the marginalised. He also urged to address issues like poverty and hunger and to strive for justice and harmony in society.

Ganesan stated this during the diamond jubilee celebration of Shree Shree Shiv Mandir in Tsithrongse village under Chümoukedima district on Wednesday. He urged the participants to make use of the celebration as an opportunity to combat social, economic and political evils.

Upon his arrival, the governor lighted the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of a seven-day Shiv Mahapuran Katha, stated a DIPR report.

In his address, the governor expressed his delight to participate in the diamond jubilee celebration of Shree Shree Shiv Mandir. He stated that the temple has long served as a sanctuary for countless devotees from within the state and beyond, who gather each year to celebrate Shivratri.

He added that beyond its religious significance, the temple committee has undertaken numerous initiatives to positively impact society. He said daily charitable activities are organised and the temple premises also house a Gurukul, offering free education in Sanskrit and Vedic mantras to facilitate meaningful worship.

The governor further commended the dedication of countless souls, committee members and devotees, who have contributed to organising a grand celebration.

It mentioned that the temple, established in 1962, stands as one of the oldest religious institutions in the state. The temple’s remarkable history tells the story of its construction at the very spot where the sacred Shivalinga was discovered.

The highlights included the inauguration of the renovated Shiv Mandir and the unveiling of SABANANP, a construction undertaken by Chandu Agarwal and his family in loving memory of their parents.

The programme also featured a Sanskrit welcome song by the children of Gurukul, a presentation on the history of Shiv Mandir by Devindra Rana, a captivating Gorkha dance performance by the Singrijan-Khopanala Youth Association and an expression of gratitude by Tezu Pradhan, GB of Singrijan village.

Short speeches were also delivered by T Sangtam, Head GB of Tsithrongse village, and other dignitaries including deputy commissioner of police, Chümoukedima, Muneesh, and the advisor to the governor, Rajesh Soundararajan.
