Governor, CM extend Tsokum, Yemshe greeting

Dimapur, Oct. 5 (EMN): Governor of Nagaland Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has extended Tsokum and Yemshe greetings to the people of Nagaland and to the Khiamniungan and Pochury communities respectively.

The governor shared that Tsokum is celebrated to invoke blessings for a bountiful harvest and to avoid any unforeseen misfortune among family members during the time of harvest.

“This beautiful festival has the underlying essence of promoting unity, peace and harmony. Sharing of produces with one another is a wonderful practice observed during the festival.

“Boys and girls take part in traditional games and rituals of the festival. It is important for our children to carry on the rich culture and tradition- Tsokum provides an opportunity to understand and appreciate the beauty of the underlying ancient philosophies of the community,” the message read.

Meanwhile, Yemshe is a harvesting festival and the Pochury community rejoices in the fruit of their hard work during this time of celebration.

“An important practice is the enthusiastic cleaning of the village by the people.

“Let us take active interest, specially the youths, in safeguarding and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Nagas inherently reflected in our festivals,” he said.

Mukhi further urged to observe the festivals by observing COVID-19 protocols at all times.

“On this auspicious occasion, I wish you all good health, peace and prosperity!” he added.

 Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also extended greetings on the occasion of Tsokum and Yemshe festivals.

“May the essence of the festival of promoting peace, unity and harmony be strengthened.

“May it foster unity and bring blessings of prosperity and wellness to every household. Best wishes for the well-being of everyone,” he shared.
