Government appeals for aid to Nepal;NE plethora in solidarity

The Chief Secretary of Nagaland has appealed to all the employees of the state to volunteer a
contribution of a day’s wage as relief for the people of Nepal affected by the recent earthquake that devastated the mountainous country earlier in April. Administrative heads of departments and heads of departments are requested to collect the contribution and deposit the amount with the establishment of the Home Commissioner of Nagaland by May 7. The deposited amount will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
Also, the Tibetan Bhutia Buddhist Welfare Association is mobilizing funds for the people affected by the disaster. The association is setting up donation boxes in and around Hongkong Market in Dimapur for two days, May 4 and the 5th.
“We appeal all general public to generously contribute for the same,’ a message from the organization issued through the media stated on Saturday.
In the south, activities to mobilize funds as well as express solidarity with the people Nepal as well are underway. The North East People Association of Mangalore (NEPAM) organized a candlelight vigil in front of City Centre Mall in Mangalore on May 1.
Not only the Northeast students of Mangalore but the locals too came out in support of the Nepal earthquake victims and the affected, the organization informed in a message on Saturday.
The program was initiated by the NEPAM. Member of Legislative Assembly JR Lobo addressed the gathering and said it was one’s duty to help neighbors. ‘This will help us to live well too. Nepal is a country in the middle of nature. Let us join together and pray for the people, families who has lost their loved ones, and the recovery of Nepal, and prayed that the people will have the strength to bear the disaster,’ the message said, understood to be quoting the legislator.
Members of the association also gathered funds from students and visitors of the mall.
Advisor to NEPAM Kaine Cecilia said ‘we pay our due respect and condolence to those who have lost their life in the devastating disaster, and said it is our moral and human responsibilities to contribute to the people of Nepal in whatever small way we can’.
The association of NEPAM got into contact with a victim of the disaster in Nepal, Sanjay Lama. He is said to have told the members of the organization that the people affected by the disaster had no place to stay and were sleeping outside in playgrounds, the NEPAM stated in the message.
