Kohima, May 18 (EMN): The Manipur-bound truck mired down at National Highway-29 between Kohima-Dimapur could not be removed as scheduled on Tuesday midnight.
The overloaded truck, which was stuck in the mudslides near the steel bridge in Peducha, caused inconvenience to the flow of traffic in the past few days.
Following the spot inspection by Kohima Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie, area administrative team led by SDO Sechu Zubza and NHIDCL on Tuesday, SP Kohima was entrusted to arrange a team to tow the truck away by midnight but it could not be done as planned.
SDO (Civil) Sechü Zubza Tiayanger on Wednesday told this newspaper that the empty trucks, to which the goods from the overloaded truck would be shifted to, reached the spot late, and hence the work was delayed to Wednesday.
However, ‘road cutting and filling up of big potholes were done in the midnight (Tuesday), for which all vehicular movement was stopped for two hours, from 11pm to 1am’, he informed.
He added that the truck will be removed by Wednesday night as traffic movement cannot be stopped during the day.
Kohima DC issues travel advisory
Meanwhile, The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has issued a travel advisory, informing the public that vehicular movement will be suspended at two stretches of road — Chainage KM 155 (Steel Bridge Area) of Kohima-Dimapur 4-lane road; and from Sechu Zubza Police Station to Peducha Check Post (Green Hills restaurant) – between 12 am to 2 am from May 20 to the 27th.
It said this is required “in order to clear the obstructing soil and rock debris resulting from mudslide/ landslide and affecting the traffic movement along NH-29 at Peducha / Zubza”.
