Geology and Mining department holds annual meeting

Dimapur, Aug. 6 (EMN): Department of Geology and Mining Nagaland held it 41st State Geological Programming Board (SGPB) meeting at Geology and Mining office’s conference hall in Dimapur on August 6.
Speaking on the occasion as guest of honour, minister of Soil and Water Conservation and Geology and Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam, has termed the occasion as an opportune time to deliberate and exchange scientific views in order to fine-tuning the geo-scientific activities of the department.
Stating that self-sufficiency has been the vision of every nation, Sangtam reminded the officers that Nagaland was blessed with substantial mineral resources. He, however, stated that numerous resources remained unexplored.
Sangtam exuded confidence that the department, with its huge pool of technical knowledge, would be able to garner benefit by exploring the dormant resources.
The minister said that with rapid urbanisation and its negative impact, there was a need to formulate judicious policies in order to mitigate the impending disasters and challenges.
Delivering the welcome speech, the commissioner and secretary, K Libanthung Lotha, stated that SGPB has been a long tradition to update professional knowledge and exchange ideas.
Lotha added that with the scientific contribution of various allied sister organisations through the meeting, the department has made significant progress in its geo-scientific works.
In the technical session, the meeting deliberated on confirmation of 40th SGPB meeting minutes, apprised work done by various agencies/ department and work done by the directorate of Geology and Mining (DGM) Nagaland, approval of filed season programmes 2022-23.
