GBs urged to dispense justice without favouritism

KOHIMA — Describing the Gaon Buras (GB) as custodian of Nagas custom and tradition, the former president of Angami Public Organisation (APO), Mhiesizokho Zinyu, on Wednesday called upon the GB members to dispense justice without favouritism.

Speaking at the silver jubilee celebration of the Western Angami Gaon Buras’ Union (WAGBU) held at Sechü Zubza Village Council Hall, Zinyu underlined the crucial role played by the GBs in the Naga society. He stated that a person to be GB should own good moral and maintain integrity and added that the community should treat him with respect and dignity.

Stating that the GBs institution has come a long way since the British era, Zinyu, who was the chief guest, stated that the oldest member in the village was selected as the GB. He also underlined the task of GB to collect yearly household tax, which was to be submitted to the DC office.

Asserting that GBs have been endowed with the responsibility to deliver justice basing on truth, Zinyu called upon the members not belittle their role or be complacent of their roles but carry on their assigned task with all seriousness so that justice flow like a river.

Also speaking at the programme, the president of APO, Razouvotuo Chatsu, greeted the GBs on the occasion and advised them to be bold and courageous in carrying out their assigned task.

Speeches were also delivered by president of All Angami GBs Association, Thepfukedo Kuotsu; president of Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) Kepelhoutuo Chüsi among others.

A brief history of Western Angami GBs Union was presented by Neithovilie Miaselhou, convenor of finance committee.

The welcome address was delivered by Neigweto Mor, GB and secretary of souvenir committee, while the vote of thanks was delivered by RC Angami, vice president of WAGBU.
