Dimapur, Dec. 17 (EMN): The GB’s Union Dimapur (Sadar/Urban) has opposed the decision of the Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) executive to extend the tenure of the current officer bearers till 2025.

The union said in a press release that the decision taken by the NGBF executive at its meeting on October 7 was unconstitutional and that it doesn’t have any authority to initiate such move.

“The constitution of NGBF categorically provided under Article 10-A, ‘…A candidate once held the post of a President shall not be nominated for second time…’. And only in an exceptional circumstances, the executive body can obtain the approval of the general body to extend the term of Office bearers however, not beyond 6 (six) months. And during the intervening period, the general body meeting should be convened and constitute a search committee,” read the press release.

Expressing its dismay over the move, the union stated that it will neither “support nor acknowledge the present NGBF officials”, terming the purported extension of tenure as “unconstitutional”. It also requested the executives to immediately convene a general body meeting and constitute a search committee for selection of office bearers in compliance with the federation’s constitution.

Till such time, the GB’s Union Dimapur urged the state government not to release the Nagaland GB’s Corpus Fund and other funds.
