Gana Suraksha Party to contest 4 Parliamentary seats in Assam, names candidate for Diphu

DIPHU — The Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) has named John Bernard Sangma, a retired IAS officer, as its candidate for the 6 – Diphu (ST) Parliamentary Constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2024.

President of GSP and MP from Kokrajhar, Naba Kumar Sarania, said that his party will contest in four Parliamentary constituencies of Assam including 6 – Diphu (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, Darang, Udalguri and Kokrajhar while discussion is still on whether or not to field a candidate from Nagaon.

Party workers and supporters organised a welcoming programme for Sangma at Dimasa Club on Monday following the announcement of his candidature. He was accompanied by the party president; GSP, Karbi Anglong district president Soboram Hazarika and general secretary Rajen Bordoloi.

“The Bodos here in Karbi Anglong are not entitled to enjoy ST status, while the Karbis in BTR also do not enjoy ST status. The national political parties always play divide and rule policy on tribal people. They ignite infighting between tribals as a result of gaining political benefit. In Assam, we are working for the unity of all tribes and communities,” Sarania told media persons on Monday.

He also informed that the GSP is contesting 50 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, spreading across states like Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra and union territory Jammu and Kashmir and others. 

The party is working on forming a strong regional force combining both tribal and non-tribal communities in Assam, he added.

The GSP also had a meeting with the party workers to discuss the electioneering process.
