The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has updated that the government of India is undertaking the construction project of 14.71 km long four-lane highway from Dimapur to Kohima (package II), and the total estimated cost is INR 339.55 crore.

Gadkari updated about the project in a series of tweets on Monday.

“In Nagaland, we are undertaking a significant infrastructure development project: the construction of a 14.71-kilometer-long four-lane highway from Dimapur to Kohima (Package-II). The total cost of the project is estimated at INR 339.55 crore,” he tweeted.

He also stated that the primary objective of the project is to improve the connectivity between the capital city and other major commercial centres in the state, thereby enabling faster movement of people and goods for growth and prosperity.

“Our aim, under the leadership of the esteemed Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, is to deliver a road infrastructure that is both cost-effective and sustainable while adhering to strict timelines and uncompromising standards of quality”, the tweet read.

It may be mentioned that initially, the four-lane road project was announced in 2003 and the work, which was divided into three packages — I, II and III — started in 2016.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had stated during the legislative assembly session in September 2022 that packages I (14.935 km) and II (13.715 km) were almost completed, while package III was abandoned at 28.06 km by the contractor.
