Kohima, July 4 (EMN): G Rio School defeated Azedon School 1-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the ongoing 1st Kohima District Inter-School Football tournament at Kohima local ground on Tuesday.
With the win, G Rio School will now face St. Mary’s HSS in the quarterfinals match on July 7 next.
Playing a 70-minute game, G Rio School failed to find the back of the net despite a dominant performance in the first half. The Azedon defence was breached in the second half when Sangti headed in the only goal via a corner kick in the 39th minute. Azedon failed to seize the opportunities that came their way.
Earlier, Azedon had thrashed Vineyard school 7-0 in their first match but couldn’t repeat the feat against G Rio School.
Meanwhile, Rüzhükhrie HSS trounced Dandy Buds 5-0 in the last match of the pre- quarterfinals. Five successive goals in 24 second-half minutes helped Rüzhükhrie to reach the quarterfinals and keep their hope alive in the tournament.
Keviyabei-u scored a brace while Dziesevizo, Dziesenei-u, added Menuoletuo a goal each to finish the game. With the win, Rüzhükhrie will now lock horns with Mt. Hermon HSS in quarterfinals match on July 8 next.
