Forum formed to pursue Mkg-Marani Rd revamp

Mokokchung, July 6: In an attempt to draw the government attention towards the deplorable road conditions of Mokokchung to Marani Road, the twelve villages have formed a group today called Mokokchung to Marani Roadside Villagers Concern Forum (MMRVCF).
Mokokchung to Marani Roadside Villagers Concern Forum consists of twelve villages namely: Khensa, Mekuli, Chungtia, Alibi, Chungliyimsen, Changki , Japu, Satsükba, Moayimti ,Watiyim , Chungtiayimsen and Aoküm.
The Forum was formed after a consultative meeting held at Mokokchung today which was convened by Imchawati Kichu, a social worker from Chungtia Village.
Mokokchung to Marani Road served three major districts namely Mokokchung, Tuensang and Zunheboto for economy growth as well as sustainability of the districts. However, it has remained in unattended state.Recently, the Border Road Organization (BRO) has partially transferred the NH 702D popularly known as Mokokchung- Mariani Road to State PWD National Highway, but no work assignment has been put into action from the government side.
Taking into account that none of the government agencies is coming forward to assist the grievance face by the people three villages – Chungtia, Aliba and Kinunger – in 2014 and 2016 under the initiatives of a “well-wishers committee” came together to repair the road and also by the Changki Village Council (CVC) along with the citizens of Changki Village last June.
The lifeline road demands a proper repairing to make its serviceable for the commuters without any inconvenience in their journey.
During the meeting, the representatives from the 12 villages resolved to create awareness of the rights entitle to public, civic responsibility, support to the concerned department and also fight for the rights on road matter.
The members also deliberated on the encroachment of the roadside and resolved to sensitize the people about their civic responsibility toward maintaining a serviceable road for all.
