Former KAAC chief passes away

DIPHU — The former chief executive member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and former minister of Hills Area Development (HAD), Government of Assam, Sum Ronghang, passed away on May 3 at Health City Hospital in Guwahati following multiple organ failure.

Party sources informed that his mortal remains reached his residence at Rajapathar (Richo Hidi) at around midnight on May 3. Ronghang was the president of the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) at the time of his death.

It was informed that the Congress flag was lowered at half mast at both the offices of the KADCC and the West Karbi Anglong District Committee. The Congress flag would be lowered at half mast for three days.

As a mark of respect to late Ronghang, the KAAC authority has declared a holiday on Saturday.

Following his demise, party leaders and workers, including well-wishers, in large numbers reached the residence of Ronghang at Rajapathar to pay him last respect. Among the important dignitaries who paid tributes were former MP and veteran Congress member Biren Sing Engti; current CEM of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang; Deputy Chairman of KAAC, Ajit Dey; and executive members of KAAC and MACs.

The mortal remains of late Ronghang will be cremated on May 5 at the village cremation ground of Sar-et Terang village, Rajapathar.
