Former Congress minister joins NPP

Imphal, Feb. 11: Former minister and former president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Party (MPCC) Phungzathang Tonsing, who tendered his resignation from the primary membership of Congress party, formally joined the National People’s Party (NPP) on Saturday. So far NPP has fielded 21 candidates for March 4 and 8 assembly polls.
Confirming his joining with NPP, Phungzathang who was given a Congress ticket for the ensuing assembly elections few days ago, also made a public statement during a one day political conference of NPP candidate in Keishamthong constituency on Saturday saying he joined the party to bring change in Manipur.
Phungzathang submitted his resignation letter to the MPCC President on January 10. With the resignation of 79 year old politician Tonsing, so far eight sitting Congress MLAs have resigned from the MPCC and six of them joined BJP, while one joined the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
The resigned sitting Congress MLAs are Nemcha Kipgen (Kangpokpi), Vungjagin Valte (Thanlon), Francis Ngajokpa (Tadubi), N Biren (Heingang), Y Erabot (Wangkhei), Janghemlung Panmei (Tamenglong) and Kikhonbou Newmai (Tamei).
Meanwhile, the Election Expenditure Observer of Senapati District L Beimopha held a meeting with the media persons of Senapati district at DC Chamber, Senapati on Saturday. In the meeting, he highlighted on the new principles for effective management for conduct of election on MCMC, Coordinator for Expenditure Monitoring, Nodal Office for Expenditure Monitoring, Assistance Expenditure Observer, Flying Squad, State Surveillance team, Expenditure Monitoring Cell, Video Surveillance team, Video Viewing team, Accounting Complaint Monitoring Control & call Centre.
