Football For Peace begins in Wokha
Wokha, October 28: The 2nd Football For Peace Tournament and Painting Competition organised by Peace Counts Wokha kicked off on Friday, at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha, with the theme “peace within peace outside”
Principal DBHSS Wokha, Father T T Joseph as special guest encouraged all the young people to be at peace with oneself, friends and society, in looking towards God. He cited that, “Inner peace can be reached when we practice forgiveness and peace come when we forgive one another and forgiveness is letting go the Past.” Later he declared the tournament open.
Altogether 23 teams from different youth fellowships, organisations, schools and churches are taking part in the two-day tournament. Unlike the traditional football game, the game comprises a mixture of boys and girls playing together in a 40/60 ft. court. The game also has no referees and the rules are set by the players themselves. The first goal has to be scored by a girl, only then the goals scored by boys could be counted. This is an attempt at encouraging empowerment of women, eradication of gender biases, co-operation, unity, harmony and honesty. Winners would be decided by the goals scored, fair play points and the bonus points scored.
The closing function will be on October 29, with Tokavi Achumi, Additional SP Wokha as the special guest.
