Kohima, Aug. 12 (EMN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday said that flag is a symbol of pride and hard-earned freedom, while urging the people to salute the sacrifices of the pioneers and freedom fighters.
He was addressing the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign launch event at World War II Museum in Kisama, where he hoisted the national flag. The campaign is part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) celebration to mark the 75 years of India’s independence.
Rio said that Nagaland also began 75 weeks of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration on March 22, 2021, taking up various activities like social work, cleanliness drives, blood donation camps and mass pledged committing to the freedom of the country by the NCC, NSS, NYKs, and the Bharat Scouts and Guides. He added that various programmes like quiz, essay and drawings were conducted for school children.
He also appealed to the people of the state to hoist the national flag from August 13 to the 15th.
He informed that the state had ordered 4.5 lakh flags so that it can reach everyone and requested the people to buy it as a token of their participation, respect and commitment for the freedom of India.
Informing that flags are available in all DC offices, administrative offices, post offices, BDOs and village councils, the CM urged the municipalities and village councils to buy in bulk so that it can be distributed and reach all homes.
He reminded that India comprised of so many princely states before the independence but they acceded to form an India Union based on the federalism and secularism as the country was diverse with so many ethnic and religious groups, adding that Nagas are also struggling due to the political issue which he hoped would be resolved soon.
While asserting that the ceasefire and the political dialogue is going on between the government of India and the Naga political groups, he stressed on the need to work towards the resolution of the Naga issue so that there can be peace, progress and development in the land, for the present generation and the generations to come.
On the occasion, advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Zale Neikha and advisor for Election and Technical Education, Medo Yhokha also spoke.
Delivering the keynote address, Chief Secretary J Alam said the central government had directed all the state governments to let the top most VIP to hoist the national flag at iconic places, for which Nagaland state had chosen the 2nd World War Museum at Kisama.
The occasion, which was marked by the National Anthem and cultural presentations, concluded with Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha pronouncing the vote of thanks.
