First Longkhum Cherry Blossom Festival draws over 8,000 visitors
MOKOKCHUNG — The first Longkhum Cherry Blossom Festival, held about 20 kilometres from Mokokchung town, drew over 8,000 visitors and received praise for the picturesque cherry blossom.
The three-day festival, which concluded on November 24, was organised by the Longkhum Tourism Development under the Longkhum Village Council with the goal of promoting tourism.
Despite initial concerns, Pangeryabang, the convener of the organising committee, said while interacting with the media on the concluding day of the festival that the community-led initiative exceeded expectations, demonstrating the potential of grassroots efforts in tourism development.
He noted that organising such a large-scale festival without prior experience posed a significant challenge. However, through collective efforts, it proved to be a resounding success, surpassing their expectations even without government support.
“We have received tremendous feedback, therefore, in the coming years, the festival will be organised in a much grander way,” he said, expressing excitement about next year’s edition.
“We are eager for the next edition, as the public response was overwhelming. Plans are in motion to enhance and expand the festival, aiming for an even more significant impact next year,” he asserted.
