Fire destroys tourist cottage in Mopungchuket
MOKOKCHUNG — In an unfortunate incident, a tourist cottage at Longrangtenem Park in Mopungchuket village under Mokokchung district was razed on the night of September 12.
In a letter the director of Tourism department, Mopungchuket Community Tourism Society (MCTS) stated that Longrangtenem Park is one of the two community-owned parks in the village and the destroyed structure was one of the four tourist cottages in the facility.
It stated that the unforeseen natural calamity too place when the villagers were gearing up for the approaching tourist season, which peaks around October to December.
Nonetheless, MCTS, the mandated entity for overseeing all tourism activities and management in the popular rural tourism destination, has taken stock of the situation.
Tourism in the village is not likely to be hampered by the unfortunate natural calamity that happened on the night of 12 September, MCTS stated.
The fire was suspected to have been caused a lightning strike around 11 pm on September 12. It was informed that the razed debris of the cottage was discovered only in the morning of September 13.
