KOHIMA — Miss Nagaland 2017, Marina Kiho is all set to represent the state at the fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2019, the country’s biggest beauty pageant. She will contest for Miss India title at the grand finale scheduled to be held in Mumbai in June.

The Beauty and Aesthetics Society of Nagaland (BASN) organised a send off programme and press interaction for the 22-year-old fbb Colors Femina Miss India Nagaland 2019 at Symphony Cafe, in Kohima on April 11.

Representing Nagaland for the first time at the country’s premium beauty pageant, Kiho expressed excitement for the journey ahead. She was not selected during the last pageant but it did not deter her from going for the coveted title; rather she is enthusiastic about the upcoming challenges and look forward to participate in the competition.

In her message for the aspiring ladies, Kiho encouraged them to follow their heart and not just follow people blindly. She went on to say that achieving dreams won’t come easy and one has to work hard to achieve it. She finds maintaining diet and physique as most challenging and wishes to see herself as a lady entrepreneur someday.

Kiho will be leaving the state on April 19 for the official crowing programme of the winners from East zone states at Kolkata, which is scheduled to be held from April 20 to 26th.

Ruopfüzhano Whiso, who represented the state in the Femina Miss India 2018 pageant, shared her experience at the programme. She said that the journey to the Miss India contest was a whole new experience and was “not an easy world.”

The tight scheduled, multiple photo shoots, a lot of travels and everything else in the process to win the title becomes difficult, Whiso recounted. Yet, representing a state that’s what it was all about. ‘It’s the journey that matters in the end,’ she said.

To the young aspiring girls, if one has the required height, confidence, and have what it takes to be in a beauty pageant, go for it, said Whiso. She felt that the state has lots of potential as ‘Nagas are beautiful by nature.’ One has to bring out the best in themselves, she added.

She thanked her family members, friends, and well-wishers for their constant support during her last competition. She appealed to the people to come out and support Kiho in every possible way, including on social media.

Whiso, who is currently doing her bachelor’s degree, wants to focus in her studies and go on to do master’s degree.

President of BASN Lanutoshi observed that there is a huge difference between Nagas and those from other states when it comes to fashion industry because of different “mentality.” He felt that a lot more could be improved with regard to people’s attitude towards fashion in the state.

The BASN officials appealed to the people to show their love and support for the new contestant from the state.
