DIMAPUR — With an aim to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote healthier lifestyles, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), in collaboration with the Labour department, organised an HIV/AIDS sensitisation programme for the workers of Green Ply Factory in Tizit under Mon district on September 14.
The deputy director (MS) of NSACS, Ainato Yeptho, enlightened the audience on the basics of HIV and AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). He also emphasised the importance of getting tested, particularly for individuals with risk factors, stated a DIPR report.
Yeptho informed that individuals living with HIV could lead long and healthy lives with prescribed treatment and medicines.
The joint director (IEC) at NSACS, Metevinuo Sakhrie, spoke on the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS. She also discussed the HIV and AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act of 2017.
The assistant director (Doc) at NSACS, Chongkoi Khaming, shed light on the significance of HIV testing, especially among pregnant mothers by emphasising the importance of early detection and intervention, while Loshon Konyak, TB/ HIV supervisor, stressed the importance of timely screening for tuberculosis (TB) and its subsequent treatment.
The SDO of Tizit, Tumben P Tsanglao, encouraged the participants to be attentive and seize the opportunity to learn and protect themselves.
The sensitisation programme concluded with voluntary HIV testing and TB screening.
