ENPO refutes reports of interim government in eastern Nagaland
DIMAPUR — The Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has refuted a news report claiming the establishment of a one-year interim government in six eastern Nagaland districts following the signing of an agreement with the central government.
The Northeast Live report, citing “highly placed sources,” claimed that an interim administration was needed to “facilitate delimitation of constituencies in the six eastern districts for polls to the proposed Frontier Naga Territory, a name which has been more or less agreed upon by the ENPO and the Centre”.
However, ENPO refuted the report on Wednesday night, categorically denying the claims. The organisation told Eastern Mirror that the establishment of an interim government was never discussed during its meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) committee on August 13.
Expressing concern over the spread of misinformation, ENPO stated that “lately, many news reports on FNT have been in circulation without authenticating its actual source, which is creating huge confusion amongst the general populace”.
It went on urged the public to disregard such unsubstantiated reports.
Furthermore, the ENPO cautioned individuals against issuing press statements regarding the matter without prior consent from the organisation.
