Empowering tribal women through skill development

KOHIMA, JULY 23: An interactive session on Skill Development and Empowerment of Tribal Women (Nagaland) was held today at Hotel Cimorb, Kohima.
The programme was organized by Bharatiya Stree Shakti, a registered non-governmental organisation based in Mumbai.
In her address, the main speaker of the programme, Sushri Gunde, Trustee of Stree Shakti, emphasized on women empowerment which she said is the key to all-round development.
“Change should start from family. Once the awareness on women empowerment is done, we will be able to achieve anything,” she said maintaining that “women have the inherent strength to achieve anything.”
While expressing happiness that women are coming forward to participate in every societal activities, Gunde said that a woman, even who is not educated, can be empowered.She told the gathering that the programme was to make the women realize their strength. Though mentioning about the rights of women, Gunde also reminded the gathering that “rights and duties come together.”
“Let us come together, act together and work together. Our children should not say that women are weak,” she said.
The first lady of Nagaland, Kavita Acharya, who also attended the programme, underlined the need for women empowerment to the fullest. Mrs. Acharya stressed on empowerment of women educationally and financially.
She further said men and women should march together in order to bring an all-round development in the society.
Earlier, Medonuo Pienyü, Assistant Professor and Head of Department, History at St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama presented a report on women empowerment.
The programme was chaired by Tasile Zeliang, coordinator, Nagaland.
On the day, the SBI Kohima (Main) Branch also made a special arrangement for enrolling/opening bank accounts under the Jan Dhan Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.
