Election dept launches draft publication of electoral rolls

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2: STATE Election Department launched the draft publication of electoral rolls for Special Summary Revision 2017 on October 1 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, with the Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjay Kumar, as the main speaker.
Chief Electoral Officer, Sanjay Kumar, in his speech, said the State has embarked on the statutory process of drafting the publication of electoral rolls for Special Summary Revision 2017, which would be important for the conduct of the forthcoming elections. He urged all the stakeholders to be proactive in bringing clean and accurate electoral rolls to ensure free and transparent elections in the State.
The main purpose of the massive exercise in the electoral rolls, according to him, was to ensure that voters who attained the eligible age are not left out as well as to purge multiple entries and devoid of any manipulation in the electoral rolls.
He asked the people to access the national voters’ service portal as it will be useful for political parties to keep abreast of the latest trends in order to sensitise the general public about the directives issued by the ECI.
He also urged the political parties, BLOs, campus ambassadors and NGOs to actively extend full cooperation and support in order to achieve the statutory process for special summary revision.
Deputy CEO, Khekugha Sema, chaired the programme while Deputy CEO, Vekho Vero proposed the vote of thanks. Political parties like BJP, NCP and AAP besides State icons also participated in the programme.
In a similar programme, Mokokchung district has announced draft publication of electoral rolls on October 1 in the presence of ADC & Electoral Registration Officer Bendangliba, all the administrative officers, representatives from all the political parties and NGOs.
Announcing the publication of the draft electoral roll, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel, appealed to all political parties and all concerned to cooperate with the Election department to undertake the ensuing summary revision to make it ‘hundred percent error-free’ He also welcomed all political parties check double entry, death, new entry of electors to make the electoral roll clean. He also explained the significant efforts made by the Election Commission for a clean elections based on clean E-Roll.
As notified earlier, period of filling claims and objections will be held from October 1 to 31, special campaign with booth Level Agents of political parties for receiving claims and objections will be carried out from October 8 to 22 and disposal of claims and objections by November 30. Updating of data base, merging of photographs, updating the control tables and preparation and printing of supplementary list will be made on December 24 and the final publication will be on January 10, 2017.
