Elect people who have capabilities to lead people, says Achumbemo Kikon
DIMAPUR — Achumbemo Kikon, expressing his disappointment over how the power of money plays a huge role during elections, said that people should start electing people who have the capabilities to lead, not someone possessing money.
Achumbemo Kikon made the statement while speaking as the special guest during the 48th freshers meet cum social and annual day of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, held on Thursday at the college’s badminton stadium.
Speaking on the occasion, Kikon shared his college experience with the students and encouraged them to have a good and positive mindset, as mindset determines outcomes.
Comparing the old education course to the new one, he advised the students to take it easy and score higher academically, claiming that with the new semester system, their course isn’t very vast.
He also emphasised that government colleges have highly qualified teaching faculty and urged all students to be disciplined and maintain a positive attitude because it will determine their future.
Dr. Medongunuo Ngone, assistant professor of English, presented the Late Mhondamo Kithan Memorial Award on the occasion. The award was sponsored by Lt. Mhondamo Kithan’s family and presented to Sorenthung Ezung, a graduate student of 2023, for consistently performing well in his academic session from the first to the sixth semester, securing a good percentage.
During the event, Tekatong Longkhumre and Shanchobeni Lotha were crowned Mr. and Miss Fresher 2023, respectively.
Earlier, Dr. Bweyhunle Khing, principal of Mount Tiyi College, mentioned in her welcome address that the college now has 300 students enrolled, with 145 new students as freshers.
The principal also mentioned that the college focuses on academic success as well as shaping students to be good human beings and successful professionals, and that the college is planning to introduce extracurricular activities such as skill development, hospitality and management, tailoring, and basic computer classes.
