Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): Elden Ring has reached another milestone — it has sold over 12 million copies across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles since its launch on February 25.

Developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco shared the news via a press release, stating that the game has sold 12 million copies worldwide out of which one million copies were sold in Japan alone.

To put that in context, it took three Dark Souls games to reach the milestone and the fact that Elden Ring reached those figures in mere weeks is quite staggering and frankly well-deserved.

The game has received “very positive” reviews on Steam and almost perfect scores across many gaming review sites. The game boasts one of the best open-world designs ever, amazing combat mechanics, jaw-dropping visuals, tons of content and massive replay potential. The game is touted by many to be in the running for the “Game of the Year” award and for good reason.

“It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing “Elden Ring,” wrote Hidetaka Miyazaki, CEO of FromSoftware. “I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team. “Elden Ring” is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin. We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats.”

Bandai Namco president Yasuo Miyakawa wrote, “I would like to use this opportunity to give my thanks to all our fans who have brought “ELDEN RING” into their gaming life. I am very proud to have been involved in bringing such a wonderful and fantastic game to life with FromSoftware, under the guidance of Director Miyazaki, and with George R. R. Martin.”

“Much effort was placed into creating “ELDEN RING” so that we could exceed the expectations of our fans worldwide. In like manner, we will continue our efforts in expanding the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life,” Miyakawa added.

Elden Ring’s rousing success means that a sequel now seems inevitable. The developers have yet to make an official announcement, however, the company has confirmed that it would be treating Elden Ring as an IP that will expand “beyond the realm of games.”
