Educational institutions resume classes in Imphal

The educational institutions in the greater Imphal area comprising in Imphal East and West districts in the state, reopens and resumes its normal classes after closing down for almost two months.
Most of the popular educational institutions in Manipur were located in the greater Imphal area.But all of them, right from the primary level to higher studies remained closed after the state government announced to close down the educational institutions since July 9 onwards in the wake of the widespread public agitation demanding implementation of a mechanism to check inflow of outsiders, in order to pave way for Inner Line Permit system(ILP) system on the lines of Arunachal Pradesh,Mizoram and Nagaland where outsiders have to carry government-issued travel documents in protected area.The government’s education department had announced to reopen the institutions in on August 4, but it cannot be materialized as the respective educational institutions are not ready to open their institutions as violence broke out again across the greater Imphal area after the death of a class XI student Sapam Robinhood (16) of Ananda Singh Higher secondary academy in Imphal East during police action on July 8.
Fortunately the decision to resume classes of the educational institutions both the government and private run ones, came after the government passed three Bills-the Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Manipur Shop & Establishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 during an emergency sitting of assembly on August 31 and subsequent performance of the historic last rites of deceased student Sapam Robinhood in Imphal on Thursday.The last rites which passed through the important routes in Imphal East and West districts was started from JNIMS mortuary to Awa hillock, was attended thousands mostly womenfolks of various localities in their traditional of mourning attires.
Iron loaded truck burnt: Suspected bandh supporters burnt down one iron loaded truck(NL- 05D 8917) near Keithelmanbi cemetery about 40km north of Imphal under Kangpokpi police station along the Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway 2 last night at around 9.30 pm, sources from Kangpokpi said. The incident took place hours before the United Naga Council sponsored 48 hour bandh along the highways begins from Thursday midnight in protest against the passing of three Bills.
Sources from the hill station further said that another 48 hour Chakka bandh on Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam routes by Thadou Peoples Liberation Army (TPLA) was also started from 6pm of Thursday to protest against the three bills passed in Manipur assembly,
The bills in question are the Protection of Manipur Peoples Bill, 2015, the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Manipur Shop & Establishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the two resolutions of the Assembly on August 31.
Reports reaching here said that truck was heading towards Imphal side from Satyam Industries Taphou near Senapati district headquarters when the incident took place. However, personnel of Kangpokpi Police Station on receiving the information of the incident quickly rushed to the spot along with the fire service and extinguished the flare.But the front portion of the vehicle had been completely damaged by then.
