Dzudo lifts 1st U-14 open Naga wrestling c’ship title

Mulubi Dzudo lifted the first Under-14 Open Naga Wrestling championship title defeating Ngosa Tunyi in both bouts in the final match played at Pfütsero Sports Complex, Phek, on Thursday.

The 13-year-old from Upper Khomi village in Phek district walked away with cash award of INR 10,000 and citation.

The runner-up Ngosa Tunyi of Kikruma received INR 8000. Khriethoveyi Veswuh (Suthozu Nawe) defeated Vephito Puro (Porba) to take the third position and received INR 6000, while the fourth-placed wrestler received INR 3000.

The losing quarter finalists were Zhosi Puro, Surhoto Sakhamo, Ve Kezo and Beduvo Tetseo.

A total of 16 young wrestlers participated in the championship.

Organiser of the event, Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) earlier said the Under-14 group was introduced for the first time to encourage Naga style wrestling at a young age and to provide them a platform for experience.

Former Naga Wrestling champion and advisor of CWA, Chisazo Dawhuo, was the guest for the event and gave away the awards to the winners.

Meanwhile, the second edition of the Open Chakhesang Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 is scheduled to be held on Friday at Pfütsero Sports Complex.

A total of 64 wrestlers including wrestlers from within and outside Nagaland will compete for the champion title.

Prominent wrestlers include Kezhavizo Thevo (reigning 1st edition Champion), Atul Suresh Shirole ( Karnataka wrestling champion), Sekho Veini (reigning Senapati district wrestling champion), Dushyant, Sagar and Ritik from Delhi, Pfusato Tetseo, Thuputha Hesuh (reigning NWA U-16 champion), Kekhriezo Nagi, Venuzo Vadeo, Serayi Testeo, Huluyi D Vadeo, Vemele Thingo, Atuo Tevo, Mezivil Kiso, Medodsatuo Paunuo, Subham Iroji Patil and Sambhaji Balu Parmoji from Karnataka, Sentilong Imchen from Ao community, Zeneito Kinto, Neithongulie Kuotsu, Neilasetuo Zashumo, Ketoulhou Mejura, Neingusazo Ngukha, Keneisetuo Kire, Neizosetuo Kire, and others.
