‘Drunken’ truck stumbles into Wokha police

Wokha police landed a big catch on Thursday when a lorry filled with Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) found its alcoholic load in the welcoming arms of Wokha district police personnel. The driver and the handyman of the vehicle have been arrested in connection with the case.Authorities of Wokha district police informed on Friday, July 10 that 1, 020 cases of IMFL were seized by the police on July 9 at around 6:30 Am from near Yikhum village along the Wokha–Merapani road. The truck bore the registration number ‘AS12E-7751’.
The driver of the truck and his handyman were arrested in this connection and booked under the Nagaland Liquor (Total Prohibition) Act. The two were identified as one Nipen Keot, 26 years, of Tezpur in Assam, and an Athea Soma, 22 years, of Sontipur, also in Assam.
The seized consignment included 750 cases of MC Rum, five cases of Blenders Pride, 100 cases of Fosters Beer, 80 cases of Kingfisher Beer, 50 cases of Officer Choice Whisky, 25 cases of MC whisky, and 10 cases of Romanov (Vodka).
“The seized items were destroyed the same day in the presence of district administration, police, prosecuting staff, Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Youth Hoho, ACAUT Wokha unit and representatives from other frontal organizations,” the authorities informed.
