Dimapur, July 26 (EMN): The recently launched political party from the state, the Democratic People’s Party today demanded immediate institution of an independent inquiry and investigation on the antecedents of MKR Pillai with punishment to all who have embezzled public money and restore the losses made to the state exchequer.
The demand was part of a set of resolutions of the DPP’s general body meeting that was held at Chumukedima, Dimapur on Wednesday and made available through a press note from the party.
“The DPP is seriously concerned about the exposé and revelation of a huge scam and corruption network in the police department that has been unearthed in the aftermath of the raids on Mr. Pillai.
The sequence of events reveal the extent of misappropriations and corruption that has existed in the police department all these years, and the fact of the matter is that this is only a tip of the iceberg. It is no secret that such corruption and financial scams continue to take place unabated in many departments, and Nagaland has been engulfed under a culture of corruption, favouritism and nepotism. The time has come to combat and remove these social evils from our society and all sections must unite to collectively take the bull by the horns and bring it down.
The DPP demands immediate institution of an independent inquiry and investigation on all antecedents of Mr. Pillai, revelation of all the corruption and the loot that has taken place, punishment to every person who have stolen public funds and restoration of all the losses to the State exchequer.
Unless an effective investigation is successfully concluded, faith and confidence in the system cannot be restored and mere removal of Mr. Pillai from his post is definitely not enough,” stated one of the resolutions of the party.
The party also congratulated the successful completion of the previous tenure of President Pranab Mukherjee and the and the new President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind.
The party declared its support for the ongoing Naga peace process and appealed to the negotiating parties, especially the Government of India (GoI), to expedite the political talks and bring about an early solution that is “honourable, acceptable and wholesome, keeping in mind the unique history of the Naga people and the acceptance that the issue is political in nature.”
It also appealed to the Naga National Political Groups to heed to the call of the Naga people and come together under a spirit of “unity, brotherhood and cooperation”.
The meeting also congratulated Khango Konyak on being elected as the president of the NSCN (K) and at the same time appealed to his organisation return to the negotiating table.
It stated that ever since the abrogation of ceasefire between Government of India and NSCN (K), the innocent people, especially those living in the far flung districts and along the international boundary have been subjected to immense sufferings. Precious lives have been lost and the people have been adversely impacted due to violence and bloodshed.
It appealed to both the Government of India (GoI) and the NSCN (K) to make every effort “to listen to the voice of the people and sign a ceasefire agreement so that all sections can collectively work towards realization of peace.”
The party welcomed the initiative of the Church and civil society in launching the clean election campaign and resolved to fully support the initiative and commit to participate and contribute towards making the clean election movement successful in the greater interest of the people.
Earlier in the meeting Alemtemshi Jamir highlighted that DPP is the only alternative political party in the present scenario adding that the DPP will be a party of the people, for the people and by the people. He also stated that formation of the next Government by the DPP is a foregone conclusion, but the party needs to focus beyond the formation of the government and strive to commit itself to the people.
Abu Metha, the secretary general of eh party said that the formation of the DPP was in response to the desire of the masses. He also said that ever since the formation of the party the response of the people has been overwhelming and assured that the party will reflect the aspiration and voice of the masses. Metha stated that the DPP will work for realisation of peace, achievement of genuine development and strive for the true empowerment of all sections in a transparent and democratic manner.
