MOKOKCHUNG — Two tragic road accidents in the span of few days have claimed the lives of two persons in Mokokchung district. The first incident occurred at Chuchuyimpang Village on September 28, while the second took place on October 3 along National Highway 02 at Yisemyong.

According to local sources, the first accident took place around 12 pm on September 28, when a family of four—comprising a husband, wife, and their two children—met with a tragic accident on the cemetery road of Chuchuyimpang.

The vehicle, a Maruti van, veered off course and crashed into a waiting shed. The impact was fatal for the wife, who died at the scene, while the husband sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Dimapur for further treatment.

Fortunately, the children escaped uninjured. The cause of the accident is believed to be mechanical failure.

In the second incident, on the morning of October 3, a Mahindra Bolero vehicle carrying three persons and the driver plunged approximately 80 feet below NH 02 at Yisemyong.

The accident, which occurred at around 10:30 am, claimed the life of a woman, aged around 45, who succumbed to her injuries.

The vehicle was en route Alichen in Mokokchung from Longleng district when the accident took place.

Despite immediate efforts by passersby to rush the victims to Lemjen Hospital, the woman was declared dead on arrival. Police have handed over her body to the family for last rites, and the wrecked vehicle was recovered later that day. Sources assumed that brake failure may have been the cause of the accident.
