Don Bosco Province, NBHM train youth on art of beekeeping
DIMAPUR — The Don Bosco Province of Dimapur conducted a one-day seminar on the art of beekeeping at Salesian College, Dimapur on November 9.
The event, organised by the Don Bosco Green Alliance of the Province in collaboration with the Nagaland Bee and Honey Mission (NBHM), aimed to raise awareness and impart practical skills in sustainable beekeeping practices, an update stated.
Held from 9 am to 4 pm, the seminar welcomed 46 participants from across Nagaland, with a majority being students from Salesian College. Under the guidance of Chubala, apiculture officer and team member of NBHM, and Khuvoi Vese, deputy team leader from NBHM, participants received in-depth training on various facets of beekeeping, including hive maintenance, honey extraction, and sustainable apiculture techniques.
In her address, Chubala highlighted the ecological importance of beekeeping in supporting biodiversity and emphasised the critical role that bees play in pollination, which directly impacts local agriculture and food security.
Vese engaged participants with a technical overview of beekeeping equipment, techniques for hive construction, and effective ways to manage bee health and productivity in the Nagaland climate.
The seminar-cum-training also aligned with the mission of the Don Bosco Green Alliance, which promotes ecological sustainability and environmental responsibility among youth.
By equipping young people with skills in beekeeping, the alliance hopes to inspire initiatives that contribute to environmental conservation and economic opportunities for local communities.
“Participants expressed enthusiasm about the knowledge gained, with many voicing an interest in further training. The event marks a positive step toward expanding sustainable agricultural practices and fostering eco-conscious leadership within the region.
“The Don Bosco Province and the Nagaland Bee and Honey Mission look forward to more collaborative initiatives, aiming to empower individuals and communities to create environmentally sustainable livelihoods,” it stated.
