Adding another feather to its list of academic achievements Don Bosco College Maram (Manipur) has been awarded the status of College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The staff and management of the premier college have expressed great happiness over the official announcement by the UGC. Don Bosco College, Maram, widely acclaimed as the premier college of Manipur University is situated along the National Highway from Kohima to Imphal.
The college noted for its excellence in academics and overall performance has been selected to be in the exclusive league of top and premier colleges of India. There are over 4,0000 colleges in India vying with each other to prove themselves as temples of excellence. Only three colleges from Northeast India including DKDCollege in Dergaon, Assam, Pachhunga University College, Aizwal in Mizoram have been selected for CPE and Don Bosco College, Maram is one among them. It is to be noted that earlier in the month of September 2015,the college was awarded ‘A’ grade with 3.35 CGPA by NAAC which was the second highest among the colleges of the Northeasternstates at that time. Now it is the highest graded college as the Cotton College, Guwahati lapses its five year tenure.
The UGC status of CPE was achieved after a rigorous selection by the University Grants Commission. As a matter of procedure the UGC had notified for proposals from Colleges with Excellence through the concerned Universities. Manipur University shortlisted and forwarded to UGC three colleges which had the required criteria. There was an interface meeting with the selection panel of UGC, New Delhi in January 2016. From all over India 243 colleges were invited for the interface meeting with UGC of which 124 Colleges were selected for CPE (College with Potential for Excellence) and only three colleges from Northeast India were awarded CPE. Don Bosco College, Maram has consistently shownleadership in excellence by bagging the top ten Ranks in the Manipur University in all the 15 departments it offers. It has become an educational power house in the state of Manipur and attracts students from all over Northeast India. In fact, it has students from 76 various tribes of Northeast India. Thus the college has shown the way ahead in higher education in the Northeast.
