Dimapur, Sep. 13 (EMN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has once again asked the state government to roll back the Covid-19 cess on petrol and diesel.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the union urged the government to be more responsible and “not rely upon the general public to meet the state financial exigencies” at this crucial point of time.
“In recent times, keeping the extraordinary situation in mind, the expenditure for transportation and other essential commodities in both urban and rural areas has been abnormally augmented. Hence, the public have been adversely affected and economically exhausted in every aspect of life.
“We would also like to bring a reminder that business establishments are now back in full operation also, and the government is receiving enough funds from the central government to curb the Covid-19 pandemic. As such, it is not necessary any longer to continue with the cess on petrol and diesel,” the statement read.
It cautioned that the union would be compelled to “stage protest” if its appeal goes unheeded.
