The idea of collecting toll taxes and other revenues directly by the Dimapur Municipal Council is the outcome of the anomalies and misappropriations in the past. This experiment seems to have attracted the attention of the vast majority of the people of Dimapur as to what can be achieved when developmental activities are taken up without political interferences. As it is, our development strapped state is suffering in all spheres of basic amenities as nothing seems to be right for the common people. No proper roads, drainages, power supply interruptions, inefficient medical facilities etc. and what is worse is the fact that people have become so used to the sufferings that they find no reason to complain.
Considering the overall scenario, it came as a great relief to the people when the DMC started the developmental programmes and its benefit which the citizens started to enjoy. Not only that, it has also been found that the revenue collected from these very people have gone to waste in the past as nothing worth mentioning is there to be seen. The recent outcry of all the civil society organizations of Dimapur is the accumulated result of their gratitude towards the civic body which has done some wonderful works for the people. This public reaction may make our political bosses a little jittery as the limelight is getting away from them and of course not forgetting the cut from the revenue.
