DIMUL records 33% sales growth in 2022–23
DIMAPUR — Dimapur District Cooperative Milk Union Ltd. (DIMUL) has recorded a historic sales turnover of INR 2,351.29 lakh for the financial year ended March 31, 2023, representing a growth of 33.34% over the preceding year.
Presenting the annual report during the 24th annual general meeting of DIMUL, held on Monday at the premises of Dimapur Central Dairy, 7th Mile Chümoukedima, the manager of processing and quality control of DIMUL, Dr. Vikovor Nipu, stated that DIMUL had also recorded an annual milk procurement of 11.38 lakh litres with an average of 3118 litres of milk per day during the fiscal year 2022–23.
Furthermore, Nipu mentioned that all milk and milk products had also registered a quantum increase in sales during the year, which includes the sale of toned milk, which has grown by 19.52%; cow milk by 7.12%; lassi by 31.63%; misti dahi by 33.66%; plain dahi by 33.14%; ice cream by 47.70%; and paneer by 235.23%.
Nipu expressed that the establishment of the milk union and the setting up of the central dairy plant with an installed capacity of 10 TLPD (thousand litres per day) commissioned under the integrated dairy development project (IDDP) have indeed significantly addressed the marketing needs of rural dairy farmers.
He went on to say that Nagaland’s dairy industry has made its presence felt by supplying quality milk and milk products to consumers in the state as well as those in the neighbouring districts of upper Assam.
While emphasising the significance of artificial insemination (AI), he said that the milk union has been providing free AI services to farmers for many years in order to improve the genetic potential and productivity of dairy cattle.
Imnanukshi, deputy registrar of Cooperative Society, Nagaland, stated on the occasion that while the central dairy plant has a capacity of 10 TLPD, based on business transactions, they have contributed an average of 3,118 litres of milk per day this year.
Fortunately, DIMUL’s diverse range of products is experiencing high market demand, he said, noting that it required at least 7,000 litres of fresh milk per day to meet market demand, so in order to accumulate the milk shortage, he urged dairy farmers to rear high-quality breeds of cows and encouraged them to provide high-quality milk without any dilution with water.
Imnanukshi mentioned that the department primarily serves as a facilitator and added that over the past four to five years, the audit reports indicated a profit ranging between INR 11 lakh to INR 13 lakh. He attributed this to lower milk production and encouraged dairy farmers to increase milk production.
At the event, several awards were also presented, with SEMPCS, Urra village, receiving the award for being the highest-pouring dairy cooperative society (DCS).
The award for best secretary went to Chatra Thapa and Bhola of DCS, Singrijan. P Mishra was recognised as the best producer, while Gopal Sharma received the award for best quality.
The best employee award was given to Narayan Sharma. M/s Supriya Paul was acknowledged as the best retailer, and M/s Z Chale, Kohima, received the award for best dealer.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Mhasizokho Lhoushe, chief executive officer. Kikrusekho Chales, jr. supervisor, proposed the vote of thanks.
