Diphu, Jan. 27 (EMN):  Bisu Dima – the post-harvest festival of the Dimasa tribe – was celebrated in the Dimasa-dominated areas of Dhansiri valley on Friday.

The Bisu Dima symbolises the unity, co-existence and rich culture of the Dimasa tribe. The government had declared a restricted holiday on the occasion of Bisu Dima.

At Adarsha village, Dhansiri, the Bisu Dima celebrations started with early morning visits to the elderly persons by the men and women folks to seek their blessings.

After taking blessings from the elders, the whole community congregated at the village ground for a community celebration with games and sports being organised for children, men and women alike. The village ground looked colorful as young and old alike dressed in their traditional attires took part in the festivities.

Adviser of All Dimasa Students’ Union, Rakesh Hasnu said Bisu Dima is the biggest festival of the Dimasa tribe. The post-harvest festival is celebrated with much merry-making and feasting. Way back in 1994, February 27 was fixed as the common day for celebration of Bisu Dima, Hasnu said.

In the evening, the Baikho Khuruba dance was performed by both men and women to the beat of the Dimasa traditional drums and flutes.

Bisu Dima was also celebrated in other Dimasa-dominated villages.
