Dimapur, October 9 : With winter festivities around the corner, the organising committee of the annual Dimapur Night Carnival is preparing to make the popular event ‘more productive,’ with a series of innovative offerings. The committee is headed by Kesonyu Yhome, deputy commissioner of Dimapur as its chairman, and Moa Sangtam, SDO (civil) as its secretary.

The fourth edition of the carnival will be a five-day affair, from December 14 to the 18th. It will entertain people from 5 pm to 9 pm. Around 200 stalls will be set up at the Naga Shopping Arcade of the city. This was informed by the organisers on Sunday October 9 during a press conference that was called to announce the event.
The event was introduced in 2013 to commemorate Nagaland’s 50th Statehood Day. It has grown bigger and better. The carnival is organized under the aegis of the district administration in collaboration with business communities including the Business Association of Nagas (BAN), the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and the East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) and some government agencies.

Dr. Khekugha Muru, secretary of sub-committees, informed that a new ‘innovation committee’ has been added. It will ‘oversee new ideas to make the carnival more active’ unlike the previous ‘monotonous’ event.

Dr. Muru said that the organising committee has also arranged an award for the ‘best stall.’ It will be judged on the criteria of ‘stall maintenance’ and ‘items.’ A ‘business zone’ has also been proposed for the carnival so that companies and the corporate can display their products. The committee said to expect more corporate participation this time.

With the night events growing more popular among citizens of Dimapur, the Dimapur Night Carnival organizers have appealed to organisations to avoid using the brand mark ‘Dimapur Night Carnival’ for other local carnivals.

The committee informed that ‘Dimapur Night Carnival’ was the only district and official event. ‘Ward carnivals’ should not confuse the people, the organizers said.

For entertainment, the organizers will be providing an open stage on which dancers, musicians, stand-up comedians and fashion enthusiasts can perform. This is to promote upcoming artistes, the organizers said.

Interested individuals and groups can collect forms from the BAN’s office, EDBA’s office, or from the DMC’s office from November 1. They may also contact the number 8974016853 for more information.
