Dimapur Police nabs one fraudster

Dimapur, March 28 (EMN): Dimapur Police arrested one person identified as  Jonathan Zumvü alias Ting Ting on charges of cheating shop owners from Purana Bazaar areas on March 24.

A police report issued by the deputy assistant commissioner of police and PRO stated that the accused person was arrested earlier on similar charges.

The modus operandi, according to the police, was that the accused person would, on the pretext of buying items from a targeted departmental store, would produce his debit card at the billing counter with the selected merchandise already fetched from the shelves of the store. During this billing process, he would then ask for some cash from the cash counter for making other purchases from the nearby shop for which he would then inform the cashier to debit the total amount from his ATM/ debit card.

It went on to add that on receipt of the cash from the unaware cashier, the accused person would then dash off. It added that a case in this connection has been registered at East Police Station, Dimapur.

In a separate incident, police personnel from Diphupar and East Police Station recovered two stolen Scooty on March 25. It stated that the recovered scooty bikes were handed over to the rightful owners.

Police also recovered 110 bottles of liquor from the possession of two persons identified as Ravi and Dilip Chetri on March 25. It added that a case in the connection has been registered at Sub-urban Police Station and West Police Station respectively.

Meanwhile on March 26, police personnel from the West Police Station detained seven persons for not wearing face masks, which was in violation to the Covid-19 SOPs issued by the state government. In this regard, the public are advised to extend cooperation for the safety of all concerned.

In another incident, Dimapur police recovered one unidentified male body of a non-Naga, aged around 50 years, from GS Road on March 27. The deceased was wearing white black pattern shirt and green long pants at the time of recovery. The cause of death was suspected to be of natural illness.

It added that the body has been evacuated to the District Hospital for post mortem and identification. Claimants/ relatives/ friends of the deceased are requested to contact the officer in-charge of East Police Station, Dimapur, for further information.
