Dimapur Police issues traffic regulation

Dimapur, Nov. 1 (EMN): In continuation to its earlier order dated October 3 and in the interest of public safety during the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the Dimapur commissioner of police, under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,  has issued traffic regulations for non-essential vehicle movement within Dimapur town and NH-29 till Chümoukedima town with effect from November 2 to the 30th.

The commissioner of police, Rothihu Tetseo, stated that only vehicles with registration ending with odd number (ie 1,3,5,7, and 90 would be allowed to ply on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while only vehicle with registration ending with even numbers (ie 2,4,6,8 and 0) would be allowed to ply on every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

It stated that the restriction would not be enforced on Sundays. It also informed that the category under essential services as notified earlier would be exempted.

Further, government servants on bonafide government duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services/ involved in Covid-19 related duties would also be exempted from the purview of the restriction on production of relevant documents and valid ID proof.

Two wheelers are also exempted from the traffic restriction.

It further stated that all heavy vehicles, except those engaged in the four-lane construction work with valid permit would be restricted from playing within the town area and highway area from 9 am to 3 pm.

It also cautioned that violation of the aforementioned order would be penalised Under Section 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988.

The district police chief, therefore, appealed to all citizens to cooperate in the interest of public safety.
