8 arrested from Assam, Manipur and Dimapur; 2 vehicles recovered

DIMAPUR — Dimapur Police have busted an inter-state gang involved in drugging and snatching of vehicles by arresting eight persons from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, leading to recovery of two vehicles in the process.

In a press release on Saturday, the commissioner of police (CP), Dimapur informed that a routine investigation into a missing person FIR earlier lodged at East Police Station, unravelled an organised network of criminal gangs operating in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and West Bengal.

“Modus operandi of the gang involved hiring of inter-state plying commercial vehicles by posing as prospective clients. Gang members would befriend drivers, give food items laced with drugs and snatch away the vehicles while drivers were in unconscious state,” it stated.

According to police, the mastermind identified as one Shymalendu Roy from West Bengal, planned and executed the crime through his network of inter-state gang members.

Relying on digital evidences collected through technical surveillance, police arrested two gang members from Manipur, four from Assam and another two from Dimapur.

The East PS team was led by investigating officer, ASI Ikato Sema under the supervision of ACP East, Imkongsangba Jamir.

Meanwhile, Dimapur Police cautioned commercial vehicle drivers and owners to be aware of the prevalence of such crimes and to report instances of missing drivers and vehicles to police without delay.
