Dimapur plunges into darkness amid humid weather
DIMAPUR — Dimapur plunged into darkness on Friday evening after a major breakdown in one of the grids in the city, causing widespread power cut for hours.
The power outage gripped Dimapur and its adjoining areas amid the humid weather, as the 132Kv Dimapur (Power Grid) Nagarjan transmission line tripped around 6.30 pm on Friday, affecting electricity supply to the state’s commercial hub, Chümoukedima, Peren and Niuland districts, according to sources.
The exact cause of the tripping is not known but the power department officials and staff in Dimapur are trying their best to restore the power; can’t ascertain when it can will be restored, it added.
The department was, however, able to restore electricity in most part of the affected areas after several hours of outage, up to 6 hours in some places.
It may be mentioned that a power grid trips when the load on the grid is dangerously high or due to malfunctioning of transmission line, among other reasons.
