Dimapur needs modern infrastructure, good drainage system, says Nagaland Governor
DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan on Wednesday stressed on the need for government departments and the citizens of Dimapur to work hand-in-hand in order to find a viable solution to various issues, including poor drainage system.
Addressing the HODs and civil society organisations (CSOs) in the conference hall of Dimapur DC during his maiden official visit to the district, the governor said Dimapur is one of the most vibrant and pluralistic towns in the state, with immense contribution to the state’s economy despite being the smallest district in terms of size.
He said the government has plans for developing Dimapur railway station into a world class facility.
Emphasising the problem of soil erosion due to unregulated exploitation of the river banks for sands and boulders, the governor cautioned that it will create major problem in future, including displacement of settlements and economic activities if left unchecked. He, therefore, “called upon the public to rethink and approach the water resource management and utilization and steer towards sustainability”.
He pointed out the need for modern infrastructures like proper drainage and sewerage system to keep Dimapur clean and urged the citizens to collaborate with the concerned departments to address the issue.
Expressing concern over the menace of drug abuse, Ganesan urged the civil societies and the law enforcement agencies to go all out against it, saying: “We must do everything possible to stop the inflow of drugs to the state and make it inaccessible to the youths.”
The governor also encouraged educational institutions in the state to adopt the New Education Policy (NEP) and focus on quality education to produce employable educated youths.
DC Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal presented a brief profile of the district during the meeting. He said the city needs more flyovers for addressing the issue of traffic congestion.
Several CSOs, including Naga Council Dimapur, Business Association of Nagaland, Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce, and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur attending the meeting and raised the pressing issues like completion of multi-disciplinary sports complex, approach road towards cemetery, total lifting of NLTP Act, free inter-state trade system, construction of by-pass lane from Police check gate at Amar mill to Dhansiripar and multiple taxation problem.
HODs of government departments of Dimapur district also highlighted the activities undertaken by the respective departments.
Earlier, the governor was accorded guard of Honour at DC office Dimapur premises on his arrival.
