Dimapur GBs, chairmen demand check on LPG black marketers, extortionists

GBs’ Union Dimapur (Urban) and Dimapur Urban Colony Council Chairmen Federation have demanded that the district administration of Dimapur start acting against LPG black marketers and extortionists who are adding to the woes of LPG consumers in the virtually lawless city.
A joint press release issued by both associations said the present situation entails one and half months of procuring even one cylinder. This is in contrast to the central government’s policy of providing one filled cylinder per month.
The GBs and chairmen met with all the gas agencies within Dimapur on June 28 in the Unity Hall of the Naga Council Dimapur. The meeting deliberated on the current crisis Dimapur citizens are facing in procuring subsidized filled-gas cylinders by domestic consumers.
The leaders have decided to approach the district administration “to check and stop collection of taxes from trucks transporting gas cylinders by various elements while entering Dimapur.” The community leaders also resolved to identify the authenticity of applicants while issuing residential certificates for new gas connections. This is to check the black marketing and multiple gas connections, the press release stated.
All the colonies in Dimapur’s urban areas are informed to avail the facility of home or spot delivery by submitting the list of consumers to the gas agency covering the respective locality.
“Gas agencies should genuinely make sure to deliver the entire filled gas cylinders received from the gas plant to the consumers. To have uniformity in all the colonies, the colony, the colony authorities shall collect Rs. 550 only, per cylinder which include price of filled cylinder and service charge / maintenance,” The leaders have stated.
