DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 19: The Dimapur division of the Forest department launched its website [www.dimapurforest.in] and a page on Facebook [www.facebook.com/dimapurforest] “to promote ecotourism on Amur falcon bird watching.”
The Forest division issued a press release to the local media on Wednesday informing about the event.
“It is a known fact that ecotourism presence in Nagaland is very minimal compared to (its) potential while ecotourism can bring more jobs to the locals,” the division explained. In order to overcome this drawback, Dimapur forest division has started promotion of ecotourism through an innovative digital campaign through their Project 3 D (Digitizing Dimapur division) which was initiated recently by Rajkumar M, under the guidance of IheviAomi, IFS, the division stated.
Under Project 3D, the Dimapur division has signed a memorandum of understanding with various universities and software start-ups who will now be helping the Forest division in getting their digital works done.
“It provides chance for young software professionals to work for the government as well. This website is launched part of the Project 3D which developed by students of SJIT, an engineering college from Chennai,” the press release stated.
Speaking during the day’s occasion, Rajkumar M said that the only hurdle stopping the promotion of ecotourism in Nagaland was the lack of information to tourists. “Digital promotion will be the long term solution for this. He is also happy that more youngsters are joining this initiative voluntarily from various parts of the country and expecting a ‘paper free’ government office within a decade,” the press release stated.
The district forest officer of Dimapur Ihevi Aomi, who launched the website, invited bird watchers around the world to witness this great migration event in Dimapur. He also mentioned about Dimapur’s potential as an ecotourism hub ‘because of its excellent connectivity with nearby cities.’
The official congratulated the team members of Project 3D. The team is composed of Rajkumar, Forest Ranger Vivika Sema, and other officers and staffers of Dimapur.
“With the Amur falcons already started arriving in various parts of Nagaland. We can hope that this promotion campaign will help promote ecotourism in this part of country and create more livelihood options for the villagers,” the press release added.
