Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): Various civil society organisations (CSOs) in Dimapur have submitted a memorandum to the governor of Nagaland, through the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, in connection with the recent killing of 14 innocent villagers in Nagaland’s Mon district.

The memorandum was served after the Naga Council Dimapur’s (NCD) recent meeting with Dimapur-based CSOs, tribal hohos and unions at the NCD office.

The CSOs condemned the carnage committed by the Indian armed forces and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s “fictitious and deceiving statement” in the Parliament, which it claimed has misled the nation and caused grave resentment in the region.

The organisations also placed the following demands:

  • Immediately address the demands of the Konyak Union.
  • Revoke the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 from all Nagas-inhabited. The law is a threat to the people and basic structure of the Indian Constitution; undemocratic, inhuman, and violates human rights.
  • Early settlement to the protracted Naga political issue.
  • Immediately remove the tag “Friends of the Hill People” used by the Assam Rifles.
  • Induct eminent independent person(s) in the investigation team and complete the probe at the earliest.
  • Arrest all the Indian armed forces officers and security personnel involved in the shooting and killing in Mon as well as prosecute them like any “criminal”.
