Dimapur, April 8

Nagaland is a fertile ground for countless civil organizations that exist in the name of unions, association, federations and society. Some of the most affected areas are urban districts such as Dimapur and Kohima. If the recent discussions of Dimapur district’s developmental board are anything to be considered, there will be stricter rules before approving any applications seeking approval to form civil organizations.
The Dimapur District Planning & Development Board met on April 7 in the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Niuland in Dimapur. The meeting was chaired by Parliamentary Secretary for Law & Justice Jacob Zhimomi.Legislator Jacob Zhimomi asked the departments to reschedule the action plan of the district, a set of ‘needs’ of the district, so that the matter can be referred to the government for necessary action.
In regard to nongovernmental organizations seeking permission for registration from the government, Zhimomi made clear that the applicants should be ‘properly scrutinized’ and their residential details checked by a committee. The committee can be led by the deputy commissioner, he said.
By following proper procedures and rules and norms, he said, how genuine the organizations were, can be ascertained.
The board also discussed at length matter about granting permission to opening new schools in the district.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur Kesonyu Yhome also spoke during the meeting. He sought the support and cooperation from all the departmental officers in the district and to work as a team.
Offering his thoughts about the subject, Deputy Commissioner Kesonyu Yhome emphasized on the importance of criteria such as availability of adequate infrastructure and quality teachers before applicants are granted permission to open new educational institutions.
The board has decided that prior to starting or opening any new school, permission would be sought from the authorities first from now on. The decision has been taken to see that the future of the students was not compromised by new schools.
Other decisions were also taken during the meeting. Members of the board gave approval to the application for shifting and renaming Sunrise School, in P Vihoto village, under the Sub divisional educational office of Dimapur, to Kuhuboto town to amalgamate with Generia School in Kuhuboto and renaming the school as ‘Sunrise School.’
The departments of Horticulture and Urban Development have been entrusted by the board to report on their activities in the next meeting.
The departments of Public Health Engineering and Agriculture gave outlines of their activities. It was followed by an interactive session among the members of the board.
