Development Association of Nagaland organises workshop on child rights
Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) organised a one-day workshop at SKK hall in Zunheboto town on September 21 on the theme “Contemporary issues in promotion and protection of child rights.”
An update from DAN stated that members from the child protection committees along with the representatives from educational institutions, government departments, NGOs and community leaders attended the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Vilibo K Yepthomi, assistant professor and coordinator of HMC Nito Theological College, SBAK–Nito Mount, shared about the Biblical understanding of children and the responsibilities of parents. She also stressed on the different agents required for spiritual development among the children.
Khetoholi, probationary officer of district child protection unit at Zunheboto, has shared on the core principles of the convention on child rights. She further gave insight on the Juvenile Justice Act, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, and protection of children from sexual offences.
She further highlighted on the roles and responsibilities of the child protection committee and duties of link departments and NGOs against protecting children from exploitation.
She encouraged the participants to come forward and report any cases of abuse or denial of rights relating to children rather compromising to avoid social stigma.
Regina Kithan, SPM (DAN), also shared on the Morung project, while Rev. Fr. Johnson Ayala, principal of St. Anthony School, delivered a message.
Hilito Sumi, teacher in-charge of Government Middle School, Amiphoto, shared a success story of the school with the implementation of the project Morung.
