DEO Kohima organises district-level Science Fair

DIMAPUR — The office of the District Education Officer (DEO), Kohima, organised a district-level Science Fair (seminar and exhibition) for students from classes 8 to 12 from both the government and private schools on September 18 at Dr. N Kire GHSS, Seikhazou.

An update from DEO, Kohima, stated that the Science seminar was held on the topic “Artificial Intelligence: potentials and concerns,” the Science exhibition was held on the topic “Science and technology for society.”

It stated that the competitions were intensely participated by students from 9 schools for the best three coveted positions through excellent presentation on the theme.

The competition was judged by Dr. Sedevikho Chase, assistant professor of Mathematics at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma; Sedevilhou Victor Angami, graduate teacher (Science) at GHS Zhadima; and Veravole Tetso, assistant teacher (Chemistry) at St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Kohima.

In the Science seminar, Hrüyini of Class 9 from Model Higher Secondary School won the first prize, while Kokdila L Anar of Class 10 from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and Keneisenuo Medom of Class 9 from Mezhür Higher Secondary School won the second and third prizes respectively.

In the Science exhibition (individual category), Thejasevor Tseikha of Class 11 from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School won the first prize, while Krishnendu Adak of Class 10 from Mezhür Higher Secondary School won the second prize.

In the Science exhibition (group category), Martha Bungsong and Murenba L from Dr. N Kire GHSS Seikhazou won the first prize, while Nokpai M Jorlym and Ngunlih W Konyak from Rüzhükhrie GHSS won the second prize.

Emilo Patton, DEO of Kohima, Patricia Vizo, senior SDEO of Kohima and Anyile Khamo, DPO of Social Welfare department, were present at the programme.

It stated that under a special category, cash awards to the best performing girl students and participation certificates to all girl students was sponsored by the Kohima district administration, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to promote the education of girl child.

The DEO of Kohima gave away cash awards and citations to the winners. It added that participation certificate and cash award was presented to all the student participants and teacher guides.

It mentioned that the first prize winners in each category would represent Kohima district at the state-level to be held on October 3 at Mt. Tabor Retreat Centre in Kohima.
