Dimapur, June 22 (EMN): District Executive Force (DEF) of Longleng has achieved cent percent of first dose Covid vaccination following a vaccination drive conducted at the office complex of the superintendent of police, Longleng, exclusively for police personnel and their families on Tuesday. Maximum police personnel have also completed their 2nd dose during the vaccination drive.

Briefing at the vaccination campaign, Dr. Imnameren Phom, district immunisation officer, Longleng, informed that it has become priority to vaccinate the police force because they, being the frontline workers, are exposed to the outside world during their duties and have high chances of spreading the virus back to their families and communities. The vaccination drive for police personnel and their families was initiated by the superintendent of police, Longleng, to contain and the spread of the virus as well as to protect the frontline workers, a DIPR report stated.

Asserting that the vaccine prevents severity and death, the DIO informed that 94 percent of Covid-19 deaths are non-vaccinated patients. He added that vaccines not only protect oneself but also family and community by breaking the chain of infection.

Informing that 3rd wave might strike anytime, Dr. Imnameren warned that it would be vulnerable for children. He added that the medical team is making all necessary precautionary arrangements for children in the hospital and to complete vaccination of parents and adults before the advent of third wave.

Yanithung Ezung, senior superintendent of police, has encouraged the jawans and their families to come forward and available the opportunity given by the medical department. He also thanked the medical department for their concern towards the police force.

Informing that full immunity would develop only after the 2nd dose, the chief medical officer (CMO), Longleng, Dr. Obangjungla reminded the beneficiaries not to miss the 2nd dose after three months. She also urged them to continue to maintain all Covid-19 appropriate behaviours like using masks, hand washing and social distancing even after they are vaccinated.

The programme was chaired by Impung Chang, SDPO, Longleng.
