DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) condemned the shooting incident on July 18 at NST Colony in Dimapur, where unidentified armed miscreants shot at an employee of Ankit Transport.

The incident occurred when the employee was on his way to the washroom at around 6:30 pm. Two armed men opened fire, injuring him in the leg. He was rushed to the hospital.

In a condemnation note, the DCCI mentioned that it has been highlighting the issue of illegal taxation imposed on the business community by various Naga political groups and anti-social elements and the latest incident is another instance of the daily threat and harassment meted out to the business community.

“Our repeated appeals to the government and law enforcement agencies to rein in the menace of illegal taxation have, so far, fallen on deaf ears,” it said.

The DCCI requested that the police and administration make every effort to apprehend those responsible for the shooting and take stringent action against them.

Furthermore, it was noted that some associations are collecting money from the business/trader community under the pretext of running their offices.

The DCCI clarified that any illegal collection from the business community without the knowledge of the DCCI or the district administration will not be tolerated, and stern legal action will be taken against those responsible.

WSYF: The Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) also condemned the incident.

In a press release, the WSYF said that such cowardly act is not just an attack on an individual but on the values of safety, security and respect that all citizens hold dear.

“Violence against anyone, regardless of their position or standing, is unacceptable. It strongly undermines the fabric of our society and instills fear and insecurity among citizens,” it stated.

Maintaining that the WSYF will not tolerate such acts of savage aggression and violence, the youth front appealed to the law enforcement agencies to promptly arrest the culprits and award befitting punishment.
